Indications
Relief of lower urinary tract discomfort due to hypermotility. Treatment of formaldehyde-susceptible cystitis, urethritis, trigonitis.
Children
Not recommended.
Adults
1 tab 4 times daily.
Contraindications
Glaucoma. GI or GU obstruction. Cardiospasm.
Precautions
Maintain acid urine and adequate hydration. Cardiovascular disease. Gastric ulcer. Discontinue if dizziness, tachycardia, or blurred vision occurs. Discolors urine/feces. Elderly. Pregnancy (Cat.C). Nursing mothers.
Interactions
Allow at least 2 hours after ketoconazole. May be potentiated by antimuscarinics, antimyasthenics, MAOIs, opioids. May be antagonized by thiazide diuretics, urinary alkalinizers. Separate dosing of antacids, antidiarrheals by 1 hour. May reduce absorption of other drugs. Sulfonamides precipitate with formaldehyde in urine; avoid concomitant use. Interferes with colorimetric urine tests.
Adverse Reactions
Anticholinergic effects (eg, tachycardia, flushing, blurred vision, dizziness, shortness of breath, difficulty in micturition, acute urinary retention, dry mouth).
