<6 years: not recommended. ≥6 years: 0.5–1 g twice daily. |

| Contraindications |
|
Renal or hepatic insufficiency. Severe dehydration. As sole therapy in infections with systemic involvement. |
| Precautions |
|
Maintain acid urine. Monitor therapy and liver function with repeated urine cultures. Aspirin allergy. Pregnancy. |
| Interactions |
|
Sulfonamides precipitate with formaldehyde in urine; avoid concomitant use. |
| Adverse Reactions |
|
Nausea, dysuria, rash, bladder irritation, albuminuria, hematuria, elevated transaminases. |
