Generic Name
Dimethyl sulfoxide 50%; aqueous soln for intravesical administration.
Indications
Symptomatic relief of interstitial cystitis.

Not recommended.
Adults
1 bottle (50mL) via catheter or aseptic syringe directly into the bladder for 15 minutes every 2 weeks until asymptomatic; then may increase dosing interval. To reduce bladder spasm: use a local anesthetic gel + an oral analgesics or belladona and opium suppositories before administration.
Precautions
Refer for full eye evaluation, including slit lamp, at baseline and periodically. Monitor CBC, liver and renal function every 6 months. Urinary tract malignancy. Pregnancy (Cat.C). Nursing mothers.
Interactions
May potentiate other concomitantly administered medications.
Adverse Reactions
Garlic-like taste or odor (may last for 72 hours), local discomfort, transient chemical cystitis.
