Urinary alkalinization. |

|
5–15 mL diluted in 6 oz water 4 times a day after meals and at bedtime. |

15 mL diluted in 6 oz water 4 times a day after meals and at bedtime. |
| Contraindications |
|
Renal or adrenal insufficiency. Myocardial damage. Anuria. Hyperkalemia. Dehydration. Heat cramps. Adynamia episodica hereditaria. |
| Precautions |
|
Electrolyte restrictions. Cardiac failure. Hypertension. Edema. Monitor serum electrolytes. Urine pH 6.5–7.4 occurs with doses of 10–15 mL; urine pH 7–7.6 with doses of 15–20 mL. Toxemia of pregnancy. |
| Interactions |
|
Hyperkalemia with ACE inhibitors, triamterene, spironolactone, amiloride and potassium supplements. Toxicity with digitalis. |
| Adverse Reactions |
|
GI distress, laxation, alkalosis, hypocalcemia, weakness, confusion, paresthesias. |
