Antihistamine + sympathomimetic.
Generic Name
Diphenhydramine HCl 12.5mg, Phenylephrine HCl 5mg; per 5mL; liq; grape flavor; contains sodium 13mg/5mL.
Indications
Nasal congestion, sneezing, runny nose, cough.
Children
<6yrs: not recommended. 6–11yrs: 5mL. Repeat every 4 hours as needed. Max 6 doses/24hrs.
Contraindications
Within 14 days of MAOIs.
Precautions
Cardiovascular disease. Hypertension. Glaucoma. Diabetes. Thyroid disease. Asthma. Lower respiratory disorders.
Interactions
Hypertensive crisis with MAOIs. Concomitant diphenhydramine products (including topicals): not recommended. β-blockers may increase pressor response of sympathomimetics. Alcohol, other CNS depressants potentiated. Antagonizes antihypertensives.
Adverse Reactions
Drowsiness, nervousness, dizziness, insomnia, excitability.
