Antihistamine + antitussive + sympathomimetic.
Generic Name
Brompheniramine maleate 1mg, dextromethorphan HBr 5mg, phenylephrine HCl 2.5mg; per 5mL; liq; red grape flavor; alcohol-free; contains sodium 3mg/5mL.
Indications
Nasal congestion, allergy symptoms, cough.
Children
<2yrs: do not use. 2–5yrs: individualize. 6–11yrs: 10mL. Repeat every 4 hours as needed.
Adults
20mL every 4 hours.
Contraindications
Children <2yrs old. Within 14 days of MAOIs.
Precautions
Cardiovascular disease. Hypertension. Thyroid disease. Diabetes. GI or GU obstruction. Glaucoma. Asthma. Lower respiratory disorders.
Interactions
Hypertensive crisis with MAOIs. β-blockers may increase the pressor effects of sympathomimetics. Alcohol, other CNS depressants potentiated. Antihypertensives antagonized.
Adverse Reactions
Drowsiness, anticholinergic effects, nervousness, dizziness, insomnia, excitability in children.
