Children
<2 yrs: not recommended. 2–6 yrs: 2.5mL 3–4 times a day; max 10mL/day. >6 yrs: 2.5–5mL 3–4 times a day; max 20mL/day.
Adults
5–10mL 3–4 times daily.
Contraindications
Severe hypertension or coronary artery disease. Bronchospasm. GI or urinary obstruction. Glaucoma. Within 14 days of MAOIs.
Precautions
Hypertension. Ischemic heart disease. Arteriosclerosis. Thyroid disease. Diabetes. Elderly. Young children. History of bronchospasm, emphysema, or COPD. Pregnancy (Cat.C). Nursing mothers: not recommended.
Interactions
Hypertensive crisis with MAOIs. Alcohol, other CNS depressants potentiated. Guanethidine, other antihypertensives antagonized.
Adverse Reactions
Drowsiness, anticholinergic effects, GI upset, dizziness, anxiety, weakness, insomnia, thickening of bronchial secretions, hypotension, excitability in children, respiratory depression or difficulty, palpitations.
