Indications
Cough.
Children
Empty entire contents of packet onto tongue and swallow. Do not chew. <2yrs: not recommended. 2–5yrs: 1–2 packets every 4 hours. 6–11yrs: 2–4 packets every 4 hours. Max 6 doses/day.
Adults
Not applicable.
Contraindications
DM, D, and Cough: during or within 14 days of MAOIs.
Precautions
Asthma. Lower respiratory disorders. Pregnancy. Nursing mothers. D: Cardiovascular disease. Hyperthyroidism. Hypertension. Diabetes. GI or GU obstruction. Mini-Melts: Renal disease. Magnesium-restricted diet.
Interactions
DM, D, and Cough: hypertensive crisis with MAOIs (see Contraindications).
Adverse Reactions
GI upset, drowsiness, headache, rash. D: Dizziness, nervousness, insomnia.
