Children
<6 yrs: not recommended. ≥6 yrs: 5mL every 4–6 hrs; max 4 doses/day.
Adults
10mL every 4–6 hrs; max 4 doses/day.
Contraindications
Severe hypertension or coronary artery disease. Bronchospasm. Glaucoma. GI or urinary obstruction. Within 14 days of MAOIs. Pregnancy.
Precautions
Hypertension. Arteriosclerosis. Thyroid disease. Diabetes. Elderly. History of bronchospasm. Ischemic heart disease. Nursing mothers: not recommended.
Interactions
Hypertensive crisis with MAOIs. β-blockers may increase the pressor effects of sympathomimetics. Alcohol, other CNS depressants potentiated. Guanethidine, other antihypertensives antagonized.
Adverse Reactions
Drowsiness, anticholinergic effects, GI upset, dizziness, anxiety, weakness, insomnia, thickening of bronchial secretions, hypotension, excitability in children, respiratory depression or difficulty, palpitations.
