Pharmacological Class
Antitussive + antihistamine + sympathomimetic.
Generic Name
Dextromethorphan HBr 10mg, brompheniramine maleate 2mg, pseudoephedrine HCl 30mg; per 5mL; liq; cherry flavor.
Indications
Cough and congestion.
Children
Under 2 yrs: not recommended. 2–6 yrs: 2.5mL. 6–12 yrs: 5mL. Both every 4 hrs.
Adults
10mL every 4 hrs.
Contraindications
Asthma. Lower respiratory disorders. Neonates. Premature infants. Severe hypertension or cardiovascular disease. Within 14 days of MAOIs. Nursing mothers.
Precautions
Diabetes. History of bronchial asthma. Glaucoma. GI or urinary obstruction. Hypertension. Cardiovascular disease. Hyperthyroidism. Pregnancy (Cat.C).
Interactions
Hypertensive crisis with MAOIs, β-blockers. Potentiates alcohol, CNS depressants, sympathomimetics. Antagonizes antihypertensives.
Adverse Reactions
Drowsiness, sedation, nausea, dizziness, cardiovascular effects, constipation, anticholinergic effects; excitation in children.
