| Contraindications |
|
Severe hypertension or coronary artery disease. Bronchospasm. Glaucoma. GI or urinary obstruction. Within 14 days of MAOIs. Pregnancy. |
| Precautions |
|
Hypertension. Arteriosclerosis. Thyroid disease. Diabetes. Elderly. History of bronchospasm. Ischemic heart disease. Nursing mothers: not recommended. |
| Interactions |
|
Hypertensive crisis with MAOIs. β-blockers may increase the pressor effects of sympathomimetics. Alcohol, other CNS depressants potentiated. Guanethidine, other antihypertensives antagonized. |
| Adverse Reactions |
|
Drowsiness, anticholinergic effects, GI upset, dizziness, anxiety, weakness, insomnia, thickening of bronchial secretions, hypotension, excitability in children, respiratory depression or difficulty, palpitations. |
