| Contraindications |
|
Severe hypertension or coronary artery disease. During or within 14 days of MAOIs. Narrow-angle glaucoma. Urinary retention. Peptic ulcer. Acute asthma. Nursing mothers. |
| Precautions |
|
Hypertension. Diabetes. Ischemic heart or cardiovascular disease. Hyperthyroidism. Increased intraocular pressure. GU or GI obstruction. Hepatic or renal impairment. Autonomic neuropathy. Ulcerative colitis. Young children. Elderly. Pregnancy (Cat.C). |
| Interactions |
|
MAOIs and β-blockers increase the effects of sympathomimetics. Guanethidine, other antihypertensives antagonized. Increased anticholinergic effects with antipsychotics and tricyclic antidepressants. Antacids may interfere with methscopolamine absorption. |
| Adverse Reactions |
|
Drowsiness, anticholinergic effects, GI upset, dizziness, headache, nervousness, insomnia, flushing, irritability, hypotension, respiratory difficulty, palpitations. |
