Generic Name
Phenylephrine HCl 40mg + methscopolamine nitrate 2.5mg; per AM tab; phenylephrine HCl 10mg, chlorpheniramine maleate 8mg + methscopolamine nitrate 2.5mg; per PM tab; scored.
Indications
Rhinorrhea and congestion.
Children
Not recommended.
Adults
1 AM tab in the morning and 1 PM tab in the evening.
Contraindications
Severe hypertension or coronary artery disease. During or within 14 days of MAOIs. Narrow-angle glaucoma. Urinary retention. Peptic ulcer. Acute asthma. Nursing mothers.
Precautions
Hypertension. Diabetes. Ischemic heart or cardiovascular disease. Hyperthyroidism. Increased intraocular pressure. GU or GI obstruction. Hepatic or renal impairment. Autonomic neuropathy. Ulcerative colitis. Young children. Elderly. Pregnancy (Cat.C).
Interactions
MAOIs and β-blockers increase the effects of sympathomimetics. Guanethidine, other antihypertensives antagonized. Increased anticholinergic effects with antipsychotics and tricyclic antidepressants. Antacids may interfere with methscopolamine absorption.
Adverse Reactions
Drowsiness, anticholinergic effects, GI upset, dizziness, headache, nervousness, insomnia, flushing, irritability, hypotension, respiratory difficulty, palpitations.
