Pharmacological Class
Sympathomimetic (AM tab only) + antihistamines (PM tab only) + anticholinergics.
Generic Name
Pseudoephedrine HCl 120mg + methscopolamine nitrate 2.5mg; per AM tab; chlorpheniramine maleate 8mg + methscopolamine nitrate 2.5mg; per PM tab; scored.
Indications
Rhinorrhea and congestion.
Children
Not recommended.
Adults
1 AM tab in the morning and 1 PM tab in the evening.
Contraindications
Severe hypertension or coronary artery disease. During or within 14 days of MAOIs. Narrow-angle glaucoma. Urinary retention. Peptic ulcer. Acute asthma.
Precautions
Hypertension. Diabetes. Ischemic heart or cardiovascular disease. Hyperthyroidism. Increased intraocular pressure. GU or GI obstruction. Hepatic or renal impairment. Autonomic neuropathy. Ulcerative colitis. Young children. Elderly. Pregnancy (Cat.C). Nursing mothers: not recommended.
Interactions
Hypertensive crisis with MAOIs. β-blockers may increase the pressor effects of sympathomimetics. Alcohol, other CNS depressants potentiated. Guanethidine, other antihypertensives antagonized. Increased risk of arrhythmias with digoxin. Increased anticholinergic effects with antipsychotics and tricyclic antidepressants. Concomitant sildenafil: not recommended. Antacids may interfere with methscopolamine absorption.
Adverse Reactions
Drowsiness, anticholinergic effects, GI upset, dizziness, headache, nervousness, insomnia, flushing, irritability, hypotension, respiratory difficulty, palpitations.
