Pharmacological Class
Antihistamine + antitussive + sympathomimetic.
Generic Name
Chlorpheniramine maleate 0.8mg, dextromethorphan HBr 3mg, pseudoephedrine 9mg; per 1mL dropperful; grape flavor; sugar- and alcohol-free.
Indications
Rhinorrhea, nasal congestion, cough.
Children
<6months: not recommended. 6–12months: 0.5mL. 12–24months: 0.75mL. 24–36months: 1mL. All: 4 doses/day.
Contraindications
During or within 14 days of MAOIs. Severe hypertension or coronary artery disease. Ischemic heart disease. Asthma. Narrow-angle glaucoma. Urinary retention. Peptic ulcer. Newborn or premature infants. Nursing mothers.
Precautions
Hypertenson. Diabetes. Thyroid disease. History of bronchospasm. Lower respiratory disorders. Renal impairment. GI or GU obstruction. Elderly. Debilitated. Atopic children. Pregnancy (Cat.C).
Interactions
Hypertensive crisis with MAOIs. β-blockers may increase the pressor effects of sympathomimetics. Alcohol, other CNS depressants potentiated. Guanethidine, other antihypertensives antagonized. Dextromethorphan: additive effects with narcotic antitussives.
Adverse Reactions
Drowsiness, anticholinergic effects, nervousness, dizziness, insomnia, thickening of bronchial secretions, excitability in children.
