Pharmacological Class
Antihistamine + sympathomimetic.
Generic Name
Chlorpheniramine maleate 0.8mg, pseudoephedrine HCl 9mg; per 1mL (dropperful); cherry flavor.
Indications
Rhinorrhea, allergy symptoms, nasal congestion.
Children
<6months: not recommended. 6–12months: 0.5mL. 12–24months: 0.75mL. 24–36months: 1mL. For all: give 4 times daily as needed; max 4 doses/24hrs.
Contraindications
During or within 14 days of MAOIs. Severe hypertension or coronary artery disease. Ischemic heart disease. Asthma. Narrow-angle glaucoma. Urinary retention. Peptic ulcer. Newborn or premature infants. Nursing mothers.
Precautions
Hypertension. Diabetes. Thyroid disease. Renal impairment. History of bronchospasm. Lower respiratory disorders. GI or GU obstruction. Elderly. Pregnancy (Cat.C).
Interactions
Hypertensive crisis with MAOIs. β-blockers may increase the pressor effects of sympathomimetics. Alcohol, other CNS depressants potentiated. Antagonizes guanethidine, other antihypertensives.
Adverse Reactions
Drowsiness, anticholinergic effects, nervousness, dizziness, insomnia, thickening of bronchial secretions, excitability in children.
