Indications
Anesthesia of oropharygeal mucosa.
Children
<3yrs: 1.25mL every 3 hrs applied with cotton swab; max 8 doses/day. ≥3yrs: individualize.
Adults
15mL every 3 hrs as a gargle or mouthwash (may swallow); max 8 doses/day.
Precautions
Sepsis. Traumatized mucosa. Severe shock. Heart block. Monitor for familial malignant hyperthermia (eg, tachycardia, tachypnea). Avoid eyes. Do not eat for 1 hour after oral application. Children, elderly, debilitated, acutely ill: reduce dose. Pregnancy (Cat.B). Nursing mothers.
Adverse Reactions
CNS effects (eg, dizziness, visual disturbances, tremor, respiratory depression), bradycardia, hypotension.
