Indications
Mild to moderate pain.
Children
Not recommended.
Adults
1 cap every 4 hrs as needed; max 390mg propoxyphene/day.
Contraindications
NSAID allergy. Varicella or influenza in teenagers. Suicidal or addiction-prone patients. Severe bleeding or coagulation disorders. Peptic ulcer. 3rd trimester pregnancy.
Precautions
Asthma. Renal or hepatic impairment. GI bleeding. Monitor blood pressure, BUN, uric acid levels. Depression. Suicidal ideation. Elderly. Debilitated. Pregnancy. Nursing mothers.
Interactions
CNS depression potentiated by alcohol, other CNS depressants. May potentiate anticoagulants, hypoglycemics, antidepressants, anticonvulsants, protein bound drugs. Alcohol, NSAIDs, corticosteroids increase risk of GI bleeding. May antagonize uricosurics. Severe neurological effects (eg, coma) possible with carbamazepine.
Adverse Reactions
Dizziness, sedation, GI upset, constipation, allergic reactions, rash, prolonged bleeding time; overdosage: respiratory depression, salicylism.
