Indications
Short-term adjunct in management of exogenous obesity.
Children
Not recommended.
Adults
Swallow whole. 15–30mg before breakfast or 10–14 hrs before bedtime.
Contraindications
During or within 14 days of MAOIs. Arteriosclerosis. Cardiovascular disease. Hypertension. Hyperthyroidism. Glaucoma. Agitation. Drug or alcohol abuse.
Precautions
Discontinue if tolerance to anorectic effect occurs. Diabetes. Avoid hazardous activities. Prescribe limited supply to avoid overdose. Pregnancy.
Interactions
Hypertensive crisis with MAOIs. Decreases hypotensive effect of adrenergic blockers. Avoid alcohol. Possible risk of valvular heart disease with fenfluramine.
Adverse Reactions
Abuse potential, hypertension, arrhythmias, CNS overstimulation and other effects, dry mouth, GI disturbances, psychosis, urticaria, impotence.
