| Contraindications |
|
NSAID allergy. Varicella or influenza in teenagers. Porphyria. 3rd trimester pregnancy. |
| Precautions |
|
Peptic ulcer. Gastritis. Coagulation disorders. Renal or hepatic dysfunction. Drug abuse. Asthma. Monitor blood pressure, BUN, uric acid levels. Elderly. Debilitated. Pregnancy (Cat.C in 1st and 2nd trimesters). Nursing mothers: not recommended. |
| Interactions |
|
Alcohol, CNS depressants, oral anticoagulants, hypoglycemics and plasma bound drugs (e.g., methotrexate) are potentiated. NSAIDs, corticosteroids and oral anticoagulants increase risk of GI bleeding. Uricosurics antagonized. Urine alkalinizers or acidifiers decrease or increase, respectively, aspirin levels. |
| Adverse Reactions |
|
Dizziness, drowsiness, GI upset or bleeding, rash, tachycardia, orthostatic hypotension. Rare idiosyncratic reactions (see literature). |
