| Precautions |
|
Discontinue if serious rash (or rash with other symptoms) occurs. Impaired liver function. Achlorhydria (take with an acidic beverage). Pregnancy (Cat.C). Nursing mothers: not recommended. |
| Interactions |
|
See literature. May increase levels of some nonsedating antihistamines, sedative hypnotics (e.g., triazolam, alprazolam, midazolam), antiarrhythmics, dihydropyridine calcium channel blockers (e.g., nifedipine), clarithromycin, dapsone, rifabutin, indinavir, saquinavir (monitor ALT/AST), amprenavir, ergots, amphetamines, cisapride, warfarin, quinidine, sildenafil; serious or life-threatening adverse reactions may occur with some of these drugs (avoid or adjust dose). Delavirdine levels may be decreased by phenytoin, phenobarbital, carbamazepine, rifabutin, rifampin, chronic H2 antagonists, St. John's wort: not recommended; didanosine and vice versa (separate dosing by at least 1 hour). Delavirdine levels increased by clarithromycin, fluoxetine, ketoconazole. Absorption reduced by antacids (separate dosing by at least 1 hour). Reduce indinavir dose (consider indinavir 600mg three times daily). |
