| Indications |
|
Susceptible infections, including respiratory, otitis media, urinary tract, skin and skin structure. |
| Children |
|
Under 9 months: twice daily dosing not recommended. Over 9 months: 25–50mg/kg/day in 2–4 divided doses. Otitis media: 75–100mg/kg/day in 2–4 divided doses. Max 4g/day. |
| Adults |
|
250–500mg every 6 hours; max 4g/day. |
| Precautions |
|
Penicillin or other allergy. Discontinue if colitis occurs and treat. Renal dysfunction, reduce dose. GI disease (esp. colitis). Pregnancy (Cat.B). Nursing mothers. |
| Interactions |
|
Increased nephrotoxicity with loop diuretics, probenecid, aminoglycosides, others. Potentiated by probenecid. May cause false (+) glucose test with Clinitest. |

|
Anaphylaxis, diarrhea, rash, blood dyscrasias. |
