| Indications |
|
Susceptible bacterial septicemia, respiratory or urinary tract, skin and skin structure, gynecologic, intraabdominal infections. |

| Adults |
|
Usually 1–2g IM or IV every 12 hours. Severe: up to 12g/day in 2–4 divided doses. |
| Precautions |
|
Penicillin or other allergy. Hepatic impairment. Hemodialysis patients, see literature. Poor nutritional state, alcoholics, malabsorption states, or recent hyperalimentation monitor prothrombin time. GI disease (esp. colitis). Pregnancy (Cat.B). Nursing mothers. |
| Interactions |
|
Avoid alcohol for at least 72 hours after dosing. Concomitant aminoglycosides may potentiate nephrotoxicity. May cause false (+) Clinitest. Potentiated by probenecid. |
