| Indications |
|
Immunization against diphtheria, tetanus, and pertussis in children 6 weeks to 7 years of age (before 7th birthday). When used to reconstitute ActHIB: immunization of children 15–18 months of age previously immunized against diphtheria, tetanus, and pertussis with 3 doses of either whole-cell DTP (DTwP) or Tripedia and ≤3 doses of ActHIB within the 1st year of life, for the prevention of diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis and H. influenzae type b. |

Each dose is 0.5mL IM. Primary series: 3 doses at 4–8week intervals (1st dose usually at 2months of age). Booster: after primary series give 4th dose at 15–20months of age (at least 6months after 3rd dose), then give 5th dose at 4–6years of age, preferable before school entry (if 4th dose was given after the 4th birthday, a 5th dose before school entry is not needed). Or, may be used to complete the 5 dose series in children who have received ≥1 doses of DTwP. Combined with ActHIB by reconstitution: 1 dose at 15–18months of age for the 4th dose. ≥7years: not recommended. |

| Contraindications |
|
Gelatin allergy. Anaphylaxis associated with a previous dose. Encephalopathy within 7 days after a previous DTaP or DTwP vaccination. Polio outbreak. May defer in acute febrile illness. |
| Precautions |
|
Fever (≥105 F within 48 hours), persistent inconsolable crying (≥3 hours within 48 hours), shock (within 48 hours), convulsions (within 3 days) of previous DTaP or DTwP vaccine. Neurologic disorders. Seizure risk (may give antipyretic; eg, acetaminophen). Have epinephrine inj available. Immune deficiency. Coagulation disorders. Pregnancy (Cat.C): not recommended. |

Local pain, redness, swelling, drowsiness, irritability, anorexia, GI upset, fever, crying. |
