Japanese encephalitis immunization (see current CDC advisories for recommendations). |
| Adults and Children |
|
<1yr: not recommended; 1–3yrs: each dose is 0.5mL SC; ≥7yrs: each dose is 1mL SC. Primary series: 3 doses on days 0, 7, and 30. Booster dose 2 years later. |
| Contraindications |
|
Generalized urticaria or angioedema to a previous dose. |
| Precautions |
|
Observe for 30 minutes after vaccination. Ensure access to medical care for 10 days after dose due to possible delay generalized urticaria. History of urticaria. Have epinephrine (1:1000) available. Elderly. Pregnancy (Cat.C). Nursing mothers. |
| Interactions |
|
Avoid excessive alcohol for 48 hours. Concomitant vaccines (see literature). |
| Adverse Reactions |
|
Local reactions (eg, tenderness, edema), fever, headache, malaise, chills, GI upset, abdominal pain, urticaria, angioedema, wheezing. |
