Influenza immunization. |
| Adults and Children |
|
Give 1 month before flu season. <6 months: not recommended. 6 months–8 years: 2 doses 1 month apart for 1st immunization, otherwise 1 dose per year. 6–35 months: 0.25 mL IM. ≥3 years: 0.5 mL IM. Infants and young children: give in anterolateral thigh; older: give in deltoid (preferably) or anterolateral thigh. |
| Contraindications |
|
Allergy to eggs, egg products. Acute respiratory disease. Active infection. Active neurologic disorder. Guillain-Barre syndrome. |
| Precautions |
|
Use current formulation only. Have epinephrine inj (1:1000) available. May delay administration in acute febrile illness. History of febrile convulsions (children 6–35 months are at increased risk). Bleeding disorders. Immunodeficiency. Pregnancy (Cat.C). |

Immunosuppressants: may get suboptimal response. |

|
Local reactions, fever, malaise, myalgia, Guillain-Barre syndrome, neurological effects, anaphylaxis, vasculitis. |
