| Contraindications |
|
Hemochromatosis. Hemosiderosis. Pernicious anemia. |
| Precautions |
|
May mask pernicious anemia. Monitor hemoglobin, hematocrit, reticulocyte count periodically. Elderly. |
| Interactions |
|
Inhibits tetracycline absorption. Aluminum- or magnesium-containing antacids inhibit iron absorption. |
| Adverse Reactions |
|
Nausea, abdominal discomfort and pain, constipation, diarrhea, masks occult bleeding, black stools. |
