Indications
Acid indigestion, heartburn, upset or sour stomach.
Children
Not recommended.
Adults
1–3g chewed every hr as needed; usual max 8g/day for 2 wks.
Precautions
Hypoparathyroidism.
Interactions
Calcium blocks absorption of tetracyclines. May affect absorption of other drugs. Absorption blocked by corticosteroids, foods such as rhubarb, spinach, bran.
Adverse Reactions
Hypercalcemia, hypercalciuria.
