Pancreatic enzymes.
Generic Name
Lipase 8000Units, amylase 40000Units, protease 45000Units; e-c microspheres (buffered) in delayed-release caps.
Indications
Replacement therapy in exocrine pancreatic insufficiency.
Adults and Children
Do not crush or chew; may open caps and sprinkle contents on cool, soft food (pH <5.5); follow with water. Initially 1–2 caps during meals or snacks. Adjust based on control of steatorrhea.
Contraindications
Pork allergy. Acute pancreatitis.
Precautions
Maintain proper diet. Monitor for GI obstruction. Maintain adequate hydration. Pregnancy (Cat.C). Nursing mothers.
Interactions
Avoid concomitant antacids. May antagonize iron.
Adverse Reactions
Nausea, vomiting, bloating, cramps, constipation, diarrhea; hyperuricosuria, hyperuricemia (high doses).
