Indications
Diarrhea.
Children
Take caplets with water; do not chew. <3yrs (14–18lbs): 2.5mL. 18–28lbs: 5mL. Both: repeat every 4 hrs if needed; max 6 doses/day. 3–6yrs: ⅓ tab or caplet or 5mL. 6–9yrs: ⅔ tab or caplet or 10mL. 9–12yrs: 1 tab or caplet or 15mL. For all: repeat every 30–60 minutes if needed; max 8 doses/day.
Adults
Take caplets with water; do not chew. 2 tabs or caplets or 30mL every 30–60 minutes if needed; max 8 doses/day.
Contraindications
Varicella or influenza in children and teenagers.
Precautions
Coagulation disorders. Diabetes. Reye's syndrome. Pregnancy. Nursing mothers: not recommended.
Interactions
Potentiates oral anticoagulants, hypoglycemics. Antagonizes uricosurics. Salicylism with aspirin. Reduces tetracycline absorption.
Adverse Reactions
Darkened tongue and/or stool.
