4g (60mL) daily at bedtime for 3–6 weeks. Retain enema for 8 hours. |
| Precautions |
|
Sulfasalazine allergy. Renal dysfunction; monitor urinalysis, BUN, creatinine. Asthma. Pregnancy (Cat.B). Nursing mothers. |
| Adverse Reactions |
|
Acute intolerance syndrome (discontinue if occurs), abdominal cramps, headache, flatulence, GI upset, flu, malaise, fever, sore throat, dizziness, bloating, joint or rectal pain, hemorrhoids, itching, hair loss, pancolitis, pericarditis, rash. |
