| Adults |
|
30mg daily in divided doses; range: 15–60mg daily in divided doses. Debilitated: initially 7.5–15mg daily in divided doses. May use SD tablets as alternative for patients stabilized on regular tabs: give SD 22.5mg once daily in place of 7.5mg 3 times daily; give SD 11.25mg once daily in place of 3.75mg 3 times daily. |
| Contraindications |
|
Acute narrow-angle glaucoma. |
| Precautions |
|
Drug or alcohol abuse. Suicidal tendencies. Renal or hepatic disease. Change dose gradually. Therapy for >4 months. Monitor blood counts and hepatic function. Psychosis, depression, pregnancy, nursing mothers: not recommended. |
| Interactions |
|
Potentiation of CNS depression with alcohol and other CNS depressants. |
| Adverse Reactions |
|
CNS depression, dizziness, ataxia, memory impairment, GI disorders, dry mouth, blurred vision, headache, hallucinations, tremor, rash, hypotension, abnormal hepatic and renal tests, decreased hematocrit. |
