Indications
Anxiety.
Children
<9yrs: not recommended.
Adults
30mg daily in divided doses; range: 15–60mg daily in divided doses. Debilitated: initially 7.5–15mg daily in divided doses. May use SD tablets as alternative for patients stabilized on regular tabs: give SD 22.5mg once daily in place of 7.5mg 3 times daily; give SD 11.25mg once daily in place of 3.75mg 3 times daily.
Contraindications
Acute narrow-angle glaucoma.
Precautions
Drug or alcohol abuse. Suicidal tendencies. Renal or hepatic disease. Change dose gradually. Therapy for >4 months. Monitor blood counts and hepatic function. Psychosis, depression, pregnancy, nursing mothers: not recommended.
Interactions
Potentiation of CNS depression with alcohol and other CNS depressants.
Adverse Reactions
CNS depression, dizziness, ataxia, memory impairment, GI disorders, dry mouth, blurred vision, headache, hallucinations, tremor, rash, hypotension, abnormal hepatic and renal tests, decreased hematocrit.
