|
Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder. Narcolepsy. |
| Adults and Children |
|
Swallow whole. May use Methylin ER tabs in place of Methylin tabs when the 8-hr dose of Methylin ER corresponds to the titrated 8-hr dose of Methylin. Max 60mg daily. |
| Contraindications |
|
During or within 14 days of MAOIs. Marked anxiety, tension, agitation. Glaucoma. History of tics or Tourette's syndrome in patient or family. |
| Precautions |
|
Discontinue if seizures or agitation occur. Reduce dose or discontinue if paradoxical excitement occurs. Reassess periodically. Reevaluate therapy at puberty. Hypertension. Psychosis. Seizure disorders. Depression. Normal fatigue states. Emotionally unstable (e.g., drug or alcohol abusers). Abuse potential. May exacerbate behavior disturbances, thought disorders. Monitor growth, blood pressure, CBC, differential, and platelet counts. Pregnancy or women of childbearing potential: not recommended. |
| Interactions |
|
See Contraindications. Caution with pressor agents, anticonvulsants, α2-agonists (eg, clonidine). May increase levels of anticonvulsants, oral anticoagulants, tricyclics, phenylbutazone. Antagonizes guanethidine, other antihypertensives. |

|
Insomnia, nervousness, CNS overstimulation, anorexia, weight loss, abdominal pain, nausea, dizziness, headache, dyskinesias, hypertension, tachycardia, arrhythmias, Tourette's syndrome, toxic psychosis, seizures, blood dyscrasias, rash, visual disturbances. |
