Antimicrotubles are cell-cycle specific and block cells in mitosis. Vinca alkaloids bind to β-tubulin and block microtubule formation; cell division is arrested at metaphase. Taxanes bind to a different site of β-tubulin which promotes microtubule formation and stops them from breaking down causing an arrest in mitosis. Taxanes are antagonized by drugs that block cell-cycle progression prior to mitosis. Antimicrotubules share cross resistance with each other and also with epipodophyllotoxins and anthracyclines.
