| Indications |
|
Emergency treatment in anaphylaxis. Bronchospasm. Urticaria. Angioedema. Serum sickness. |
| Children |
|
0.01mg/kg (max 0.5mg) SC every 4 hrs as needed. |
| Adults |
|
0.2–1mg SC (preferred) or IM (avoid buttocks) every 4 hrs as needed. |
| Contraindications |
|
Narrow angle glaucoma. Cardiac failure. Shock. Organic brain damage. Cardiac dilatation. Coronary insufficiency. General anesthesia with cyclopropane or halogenated hydrocarbons. Local anesthesia of fingers, toes. Labor. |
| Precautions |
|
Cardiovascular disease. Hypertension. Diabetes. Hyperthyroidism. Psychoneurosis. Elderly. Pregnancy (Cat.C). |
| Interactions |
|
Pressor effects may be potentiated by tricyclic antidepressants, antihistamines, levothyroxine, β-blockers, guanethidine. May be antagonized by nitrites, α-blockers. Avoid digitalis and other arrhythmia-producing agents. |
| Adverse Reactions |
|
Anxiety, headache, fear, palpitations, local necrosis, pulmonary edema, hypertension, cerebral hemorrhage. |
